No two installations are the same and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the specific challenges of each project.

Where Our Expertise Comes to Life: The Queen’s House Installation

To illustrate our capability in museum exhibits installation, one of our highlights was our work at The Queen’s House, part of Royal Museums Greenwich.

We were commissioned to support the redevelopment and reopening of this iconic listed building, installing over 400 years of art across 22 rooms, including works by Holbein, Hogarth, and Lely.

Key challenges and successes included:

  • Installation in a scheduled ancient monument with strict preservation guidelines
  • Navigating listed architecture, including narrow access routes and manual transport up staircases
  • Installing large-scale and fragile paintings, some over two metres wide, in Bridge rooms with complex hanging requirements
  • Working closely with Historic England and RMG to protect both artworks and building fabric

This project demanded the full breadth of our art installation exhibition expertise: planning, manual art handling, precision placement, and coordination with conservation authorities. It stands as a testament to the trust placed in us by leading institutions for high-profile, high-sensitivity museum exhibits installations.

FAQs

1. What does an art exhibition installation service actually include?

Our installation service covers the full journey from arrival to display: pre-site planning, site surveys and risk reviews, coordinating access and other contractors, supervised unpacking, safe handling, precise placement, and final checks before handover. For complex installs, we can also coordinate mounts, plinths, fixings and sequencing so the gallery team is never forced into last-minute compromises.

2. Can you install in listed buildings and sensitive heritage sites?

Yes. We regularly work in historic, protected environments where access is tight, and building fabric must be respected. A good example is our installation work at the Queen’s House with Royal Museums Greenwich, where careful route planning, manual handling, and coordination with heritage constraints were essential. (It’s also a scheduled monument.)

3. How do you manage risk for high-value or fragile works during installation?

We treat installation as the highest-risk moment because it involves the most handling. We reduce risk by planning the route and lift points early, matching equipment to the object, and keeping the handling plan simple and repeatable. Where appropriate, we build in clear checkpoints (unpack, condition confirmation, placement, final sign-off) so responsibility is unambiguous and decisions are documented.

4. Can you manage whole exhibition installs, not just single artworks?

Yes. We install single works, but we also support full exhibition programmes with a dedicated coordinator and technical team. That includes managing sequencing across multiple rooms, ensuring the right kit and crew are in the right place at the right time, and coordinating with registrars, conservators, designers and venue operations so installation windows stay realistic.

5. What information do you need from us to quote and plan an installation properly?

Typically, we’ll ask for: object list (dimensions, weights, materials), installation drawings or intent (where applicable), venue access details (loading, lifts, door widths, working hours), any special constraints (listed building rules, public interface, out-of-hours working), and the programme (install/deinstall dates and milestones). If you already have it, sharing previous handling notes or condition reporting preferences helps us keep the approach consistent across teams and venues.
