Update on GB-EU trade

There have been significant changes to GB-EU trade from the beginning of this month and our Customs Team are here to help.

This post aims to highlight some of the main changes that have occurred, if you have any questions or need further guidance, our Customs department can be contacted via the details at the end of this page.

Our Customs team can assist with your:

  • Customs Declaration
  • Transit Form
  • Safety & Security Declaration
  • Goods Movement Reference

Customs Declaration

  • A Customs Declaration is required when importing & exporting from Great Britain.
  • Constantine can assist with either inland clearance at one of our Authorised Consignee/Consignor premises or at the GB-EU Border via Ro-Ro procedures.
  • There are benefits and drawbacks to both methods but our team can provide support and advice on each.

Transit-Form (T1)

  • Transit-Forms are known by many names a T-Form, TAD, T1/T2/T2F’s and T-Doc.
  • Transit-Forms are used to move goods within and between Customs territories.

Border Clearance

  • Constantine can facilitate clearance at the border using Roll on-Roll off (Ro-Ro) Clearance Procedures.
  • A Transit-Form is not required for Ro-Ro clearance.
  • Please see the list of Inventory-Linked ports which we can Customs clear below.

Safety and Security Declaration (ENS/EXS)

  • A Safety and Security Declaration (SSD) is used by border authorities to analyse the potential risk caused to their territory by goods crossing their border. It is not about the duties and taxes.
  • There are two types of declaration – ENS (entry summary declaration) and EXS (exit summary declaration).
  • From July 2022, ENS Safety and Security Declarations (S&S GB) will ALSO be required on imports to Great Britain.
  • Existing GB export ENS checks are also likely to increase with large fines and/or delays for those who do not submit the relevant declarations.

Goods Movement Reference (GMR)

  • GMR’s are portpasses. Otherwise known as pre-lodgement or logistics envelope systems, port passes have been introduced by the UK and the EU to do two things.
  • Make sure ALL the customs processes have been completed PRIOR to a vehicle arriving at the port.
  • Acts as a trigger to update some of the customs procedures, such as the office of Transit, which lets customs authorities know the goods have left one customs territory and have entered another.
  • Useful resource: The Border Operating Model

Please remember to add your GMR to your Freight Crossing or your vehicle will be refused boarding!
