Constantine Ltd. is a family-owned company that has been at the center of specialised logistics packing and transportation for more than a century.
We currently employ close to 100 staff members and offer two facilities in London and Glasgow, which enable us to provide unparalleled coverage within the United Kingdom. Both sites feature state-of-the-art storage and warehousing, a fleet of specialised vehicles and knowledgeable staff. Our storage facilities employ the same climate and safety controls as the world´s leading museums, many of which trust us with their irreplaceable collections.
The most experienced art moving company in the UK, Constantine has recently completed a period of substantial investment and growth that has seen the opening of our new high-specification storage premises and the addition of new service offerings.
The coordination of exhibitions, the traditional strength of our company, is augmented by our fleet of air – ride, climate controlled art moving vehicles, guaranteeing that our extensive knowledge and expertise meets the needs of a broad range of clients. We make all types of made-to-order specification packing cases and have our own lightweight hand-carry cases. In addition, we handle couriers with as much care as objects and maintain permanent staff at UK airports to supervise the shipments under our care.
In recent years, Constantine has built a new reputation as a provider of special services, ranging from one-off installations, to full collection decants. We have strong proficiency in project management, databases, and a range of conservation services.
The Present Day
MLA Conditions: "The indemnified material must be accommodated in a strong building which has physically well protected windows, doors and skylights. The building must also provide appropriate environmental control for the indemnified material."
The building is divided into three "Zones", each being divided from the other by a four hour firewall.
The ground floor contains 18 climate- and humidity-controlled rooms and an "open" climate and humidity controlled area. The rooms are all block built, forming a building within a building.
MLA Conditions: "The whole of the building must have an automatic fire detection system fitted by a NACOSS approved alarm company, serviced annually and maintained in good working condition."
The building is detached, and is set within its own plot of land. The perimeter and site is monitored by a system that detects motion within the site.
In addition to CCTV and other remote monitoring systems, the site benefits from permanent manned security, 24 hours a day.
The environment in the ground floor climate control area is controlled by three separate units. The ambient environment is set at 18 degrees C +/- 2 degrees, and the humidity at 55% RH +/-5%.
The individual rooms have dual key access. The rooms can be formatted with racking to the client´s requirements.
Our heated storage areas offer racked storage for paintings and other racking and open areas for objects, archives and any other material. Overall we have 3,500 sq m of heated storage within this building.
